Our Story
Armada was born following an incident experienced by a well-known home automation company in Québec. A few years earlier, the company had completed a home automation installation worth approximately $300,000 for a client. During a storm, tree branches fell onto nearby power lines, causing a local transformer to explode. The client lost everything—even the connector on the EV charging station melted onto the electric vehicle.
Furious, the client turned to the home automation company, even though it had installed some of the best surge protectors available at the time. While searching for answers, the company discovered a troubling truth: conventional surge protectors are designed to filter normal surges, but more importantly, to disconnect during an extreme surge. This protects against fire—but not against catastrophic equipment failure.
“We were told that this was normal—that this was simply how the technology worked. But accepting that a client could lose everything because the protector did exactly what it was designed to do—disconnect—could not be the only possible answer.”
Convinced that a better solution had to exist, the master electrician who led the company tasked his son, an electrical engineer, with finding a way for the protector to remain connected even during the most extreme surge events.
After several years of development and UL certification testing, they created a solution effective enough to be patented. PowerPressure™ technology and Armada Surge Protection’s Galeos product line were launched in 2018. Since then, the same home automation company has integrated Armada products into every installation.
